José Vieira was born in Guarda in April 1962. He graduated in Painting and Master in Aesthetic Communication from the University of Arts School of Coimbra.

He has been commissioner of the Fonlad Festival since 2005 and has managed the UAVM Virtual Museum projects (since 2007) and WAC - Web Art Center (since 2010). It was a guest-jury of international festivals such as the Magmart, Projector, Celeste Prize and others.As director of UAVM, he performed some 26 curatorial projects, including "Pixel Project" (with the participation of 28 artists) and Virtual Worlds (with 16 artists).

For its part, the WAC promoted several virtual events, including the Fake Festival in 2010 (involving 98 artists in 6 exhibitions) and Non Biennale (the first edition in 2011-12 with 62 artists in 5 exhibitions, The second edition in 2014, with 45 artists distributed by 4 virtual pavilions). In 2015 he also realized the Web Video Biennial with the participation of about 26 artists.
With an initial formation in painting, activity that dominated its production essentially from 82 to 95, from 92 began to take interest in the space, promoting works of installation, first centered in the relation of the painting with the expository space, then going for Works - poetic objects, in which the material produced was related to natural environments, and finally to the video installation and video tout-court. He has participated in several exhibitions, events and festivals in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, India, Mexico, United States, Argentina, Brazil, among others.
